AADA welcomes General The Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retired), Former Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia.
A man who has served his country through decades in the armed services receiving the Military Cross in Vietnam in 1971 and rose to prominence in 1999, when as Major General Cosgrove he served as commander of the international force in East Timor during the peacekeeping mission as part of the nation’s transition to independence.
Sir Peter Cosgrove AK, MC was Australia’s Chief of Army from 2000 to 2002, then Chief of the Defence Force from 2002 to 2005, before retiring as a full General. In 2006, he led the Queensland Government taskforce of rebuilding communities damaged by Cyclone Larry in the north of that state.
He was named as Australia’s Governor-General in January 2014, and was created a Knight of the Order of Australia on 28 March 2014, the same day he was sworn in as Governor-General.
