THE AADA MACQUARIE GENERAL SESSION: Your AADA “Developing Prosperity”

THE AADA MACQUARIE GENERAL SESSION: Your AADA “Developing Prosperity”

Moderator & Host – Anjali Rao.

Following the Auto-IT Opening Breakfast, the AADA General Session brings you a variety of speakers covering a range of issues pertinent to all aspects of the modern dealership. The General Session also features the Annual General Meeting of the AADA, so it is important you attend to have your say in the running of your Association.

AADA CEO, David Blackhall and Chairman Terry Keating will be joined by TMCA Vice President of Franchise Development and Regional Operations, Evan Tsirogiannis, distinguished speakers from federal politics, and a special guest from the USA.

The federal Shadow Assistant Treasurer, Dr Andrew Leigh MP, will address the session, as will American industry analyst, Glenn Mercer.

Dr Leigh, who is the Federal Member for Fenner in the ACT, has an impressive list of qualifications and achievements. Prior to being elected to Federal Parliament in 2010, he was a professor of economics at the Australian National University. He holds a Masters degree and a PhD in public policy from Harvard University, having graduated from the University of Sydney with first class honours in Law and Arts.

He has worked as a lawyer for the London-based global firm Clifford Chance, was an associate to former High Court judge Michael Kirby, a researcher for Washington think-tank the Progressive Policy Institute, a columnist for The Australian Financial Review, and a consultant economist for Radio National.

A self-described social democrat, Dr Leigh is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Social Sciences, and a past recipient of the ‘Young Economist Award’, a prize given every two years by the Economics Society of Australia to the best Australian economist under 40.

He is a prolific author, having written several books including Disconnected, Battlers and Billionaires, The Economics of Just About Everything, The Luck of Politics, Choosing Openness: Why Global Engagement is Best for Australia, and Randomistas: How Radical Researchers Changed Our World.

A former Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister, Dr Leigh now holds the positions of Shadow Minister for Competition and Productivity, Shadow Minister for Trade in Services, Shadow Minister for Charities and Not-for-Profits, and Shadow Assistant Treasurer, a position he has held for the past five years.

Dr Leigh is considered one of the brightest minds in the Australian Labor Party, an intellectual in the mould of some of the great policy-shapers of the 1980s such as Kim Beazley, Gareth Evans, Barry Jones, John Button and others.

With a federal election due in the next several months, and the ALP considered a strong favourite to form government, AADA is delighted to have the opportunity for its members to hear from and interact with a man set to exert significant influence on Australian public policy over the coming years.

Following the addresses by David, Terry and Andrew, delegates will be treated to a special presentation entitled ‘The Dealership of Tomorrow’, by visiting industry veteran, Glenn Mercer.

Glenn is an American Automotive Industry analyst with three decades of experience, including over 20 years at McKinsey & Company, where he was a Partner and the leader of the Automotive Practice, participating in hundreds of client studies.

Glenn is the author of an extensive project on the Dealership of Tomorrow for NADA (the National Auto Dealers Association) in the USA, and recently a similar report on the future of the US whole-car auction industry. He is a previous President of the Society of Automotive Analysts, and a former Director of the International Motor Vehicle Program.

AADA Company Secretary and Legal Counsel, Vinesh George, will then host the AADA AGM.

This session is the “Report Card” that tells you how your Association and our industry are tracking. It will reveal a wealth of information, so don’t miss it!
